Scribe's Set

Description

I made part of this set for an art class (paper sculpture project), but it dovetails nicely with a civilization I'm building for a book/series/something-or-other.
The satchel holds 4-10 scrolls and is padded with woven newsprint. The box has a separate interior, quilled decoration, piano hinges, and rods to hold up the lid.
The books are hand-bound by me, following a tutorial I found on dA and forgot to fave... >.< Suedecloth, stencils, scrapbooking endpapers...
The "mini-books" inside the scribner's case are from an origami project book. Basically you fold a sheet of paper in half lengthwise, then in quarters the other way, and cut a slit through the 2 middle segments lengthwise following the center crease. With a little bit of coaxing, you have a four-page book.
The scroll pieces are leftovers of the scrabbooking paper; 1 ring inside, 1 outside, and fabric scraps for "piping". Again, gold paint and stencils.

This set would be used by a localised scribe or librarian, I think. It's sturdy enough to take on journeys, but not ornate or extensive enough to exempify permanent status anywhere. (Capital city of this civ: think Buddhist monastery, temple, whatevs, chiseled from solid rock and sitting above the treeline on a snow-covered mountain. Now multiply that one building by a couple hundred and make them about 3,000 years old. And put scholars & battle-mages in charge of the government.)
